The point and meaning of life (Part 2?)

Last year when I was still using WordPress, I wrote a blog on what I thought is the meaning of life, you can read that -> here.

Today I want to bring back that motion and talk about it again, as with these first few posts on Medium, I really want to draw back on the posts I posted previously.

Speaking of drawing back on, the last time I spoke about this I brought up how in September 2018, I was with my Dad in Cardiff Museum in Wales, and suddenly out of nowhere, I panicked as the sudden realization of my mortality hit me. I witnessed a taxidermed animal and it made me realise that one day I too won’t be around, that’s right — the sad reality is — nothing lasts forever, even if somehow, in some form, immortality ever existed (who would want to exist forever anyway?) — every life in the entire universe will cease to exist.

Last time I spoke about this, I pointed out that the point of life is — to live. Today I want to elaborate on this but in a slightly altered way.

I am not going to bring religion into this, as it’s all down to personal belief, I have my own personal beliefs but the point of this blog is from a neutral point of view — away from religion and personal views.

My view about life’s meaning goes by this phrase ‘You are, therefore you matter’. The fact that you merely exist is a blessing, a miracle, and something that mathematically isn’t really possible. You are a living and breathing miracle that shouldn’t even have a second of life, yet you do. Some even suggest that the meaning of life is “not being dead”.

From my own reading and experiences, it is all about reframing your mindset. What this means is changing the question to the answer. See personally I’ve found pursuing ends and goals — fitness, family, financial success, academic accomplishment — is all fine and good, yet that’s not really meaningful, at the end of the road you’re dead and it doesn’t matter, right? But reflecting on why we pursue those goals is significant, however. By taking a reflective perspective, significance itself accrues. The question is literally the answer.

Your purpose is the journey. In the end and the beginning it doesn’t really matter, it’s the journey along the way that counts. It’s enjoying the moment and experiencing ‘life’ itself. Making the absolute most of it, because none of us really truly know what happens when we die. So just live, enjoy, and create your own meaning. I hope you get where I went with this, thanks for reading!
